Renaissance Jaragua Hotel Casino Review

Renaissance Jaragua Hotel Casino Review

If you’re looking to escape the buzz of the day-to-day city life, the Dominican Republic might just be the ideal destination. More specifically, we’re alluding to the crown jewel of Santo Domingo – the Renaissance Jarugal Hotel & Casino.

The magnificent hotel is located in the ever-bustling Malecon, providing an enchanting view of the Caribbean Sea. It’s a perfect place to relax and unwind, especially after the 2015 $40 Million renovations. Today, the Renaissance Santo Domingo Jaragua Hotel offers its guests plush accommodations in a distinct, elegant Caribbean ambience.

The restoration of the hotel was a huge success. With the brand-new, contemporary guest rooms and suites, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a gorgeous outdoor pool and poolside bar, the hotel stands out as a must-visit destination for many U.S. travelers.

Moreover, the Renaissance Jaragua holds the Trip Advisor’s Certificate of Excellence. This is a testament to the hotel’s dedication to pamper every guest and ensure they leave the Dominican Republic with plenty of fond memories.

Santo Domingo itself is bustling with historical sights and cultural monuments. There’s so much to see and do in Dominican Republic’s capital, that you’ll likely have to create an itinerary. Bask in the Caribbean sun as you visit the nearby Ambar Museum, the Basilica Cathedral of Santa Maria la Menor — the oldest cathedral in the Americas, or the Fortaleza Ozama — a 16th-century castle.

If you enjoy games of chance and believe Lady Luck is on your side, you can stop by the on-site casino for a few slot spins or a round of Blackjack. However, the selection of games is quite modest. If you are planning a gambling trip, specifically, then we would suggest a different hotel casino.

The Hotel

There are “only” 300 rooms and suites available at the Renaissance Jaragua hotel. At the same time, each and every one is furnished with exquisite, elegant pieces. The rooms are spacious, featuring a modern décor, many of them providing a breathtaking view of the Caribbean Sea.

Moreover, the staff is friendly, nice, and attentive, rounding up the wonderful experience. This is why the hotel gives away a strong vibe of exclusivity, making the guests feel like a part of the elite. Moreover, the prices are quite reasonable. You won’t have to spend a small fortune to fund a weekend trip to this paradise on Earth.

Naturally, all of the standard amenities are readily available to all guests. These include everything from 24-hour room service and a stable, high-speed internet connection to satellite TV. It’s worth noting that in-room WiFi costs $12.95 per day, but is free for Marriott Rewards members.

However, with breathtaking scenery surrounding the hotel in the Colonial Zone and so many exciting activities to partake in, the last thing you should be doing is spending your time on the phone or laptop.

Additionally, you can always treat yourself to one of the tranquilizing treatments at a nearby spa. For a complete rejuvenation, you can also visit the fitness center, sauna, and the whirlpool on the premises.

If you want to get active once you’ve recharged your batteries, you can stop by the tennis court for a free game.

Sol Pool Lounge & Bar

The Santo Domingo Jaragua Hotel & Casino also features a spacious, breathtaking outdoor pool. Guests can go for a quick swim, surrounded by majestic palms and gorgeous Caribbean flowers.

The stylish Sol lounge & bar encompasses the pool area, offering comfortable seating and private cabanas. It’s the perfect place to enjoy an afternoon margarita and spend some time delving into your favorite book.

The pool is a great place for families as well and the kids will love it. It is open from 7am to 7pm and the hotel provides free towels. We wholeheartedly recommend setting aside at least an hour or two during your vacation to visit the Sol Pool. We’d even go as far as to bet that you’ll fall in love with the place.

On-Site Casino

Prior to the renovation, it wouldn’t take you longer than 30 minutes at the Renaissance Jaragua casino to figure out that gambling isn’t the primary activity here. This is due to a rather limited variety of games the casino offered.

However, the hotel was always a popular destination for tourists from the United States. Apart from Nevada, New Jersey, and a few other states, casino-style gambling isn’t that widespread. As it turns out, Jaragua’s visitors over the past years quite enjoy an occasional game of chance. This prompted the hotel’s management to expand the casino floor to accommodate the needs of guests who enjoy the thrill of gambling.

Whereas the hotel’s casino was quite modest, now it sports a contemporary look and is on par with some of the world’s most popular land casinos. The expansion allowed for nearly 300 additional slot and video poker machines, a dozen tables, and a brand-new poker room.

There are a total of 345 thrilling titles to choose from now, with both classic and modern, visually impressive slots and video poker variants equally represented. This vast assortment of games also means you can play with both low and high stakes.

The same goes for table games. Fans of Blackjack, Craps, Mini-Baccarat, and Roulette can test their luck at one of 32 tables. If you’re more into games of skill, you can visit the 45,236 square feet Poker Room. However, there are only 4 tables available, all of them hosting No Limit Texas Hold’em.

The casino floor is open 24/7, so the fun never stops!

Entertainment

There’s a myriad of exciting activities and places to visit only minutes away from the Renaissance Jaragua resort. Whether you’re on a family vacation, a romantic getaway, or a trip with friends, you’re bound to find an activity everyone will enjoy.

Rollers

Depending on when you visit the beautiful Santo Domingo, you might need a respite from the scorching Caribbean sun. The Rollers is a perfect place for indoor entertainment away from the heat. This gorgeous roller skating ring is adorned in bright colors and features popular tunes and dazzling lighting, for a memorable skating experience.

Dock’s Nail Lounge

Ready for a shopping spree? The stunning Acropolis Shopping Center is chock full with popular brands, so we have no doubt you’ll find plenty of remarkable pieces to add to your collection.

If you intend to spend a few hours browsing the shops, the Dock’s Nail Lounge is an ideal place to take a breather. Pamper yourself with a skin treatment, a shiatsu massage, or other beauty services at this wonderful beauty lounge.

Lulu Tasting Bar

The beauty of this tasting bar immediately captivates every tourist. It’s nearly impossible to stay indifferent once you gaze at the elegant colonial-style exterior, embellished by meandering vines.

The verdant patio is beautifully contrasted by a contemporary interior. Lulu offers an overabundance of exquisite flavors to enjoy, from fried ravioli to mini creme brulees. Pair one of the flavorful dishes with a local cocktail for a complete experience.

Galería Toledo

If you’re a connoisseur of fine arts, then a visit to Galería Toledo must find itself in your itinerary. This tucked-away gallery displays breathtaking pieces from both contemporary and upcoming local artists.

You’ll find a plethora or masterfully crafted pieces, from paintings and drawings to stunning photographs and decorative pieces to bring back home. If you’re looking for a souvenir that will forever remind you of your experience in Santo Domingo, Galería Toledo is the place to go.

Zipline Park

Zipline Park is a dream come true for everyone with an adventurous spirit. The park features a good selection of adrenaline-pumping activities, sure to sate your craving for adventure.

Gear up and traverse the narrow bridge, while taking in the magnificent view, hundreds of feet from the ground. If the zip line isn’t your cup of tea, you can always team up with other visitors and get your adrenaline fill with a game of paintball.

La Alpargateria

If you’re searching for a unique experience you won’t find anywhere else, La Alpargateria provides just that. This store sells dozens of hand-made espadrilles, but also gives you the option to select or bring your own fabric and have the artisans sew them to your liking.

While you wait, you can enjoy a delicious snack at the bar in the back. La Alpargateria is a wonderful option for an afternoon adventure, even if you don’t intend to buy the shoes. Still, they are another great souvenir, or a perfect gift for a friend or loved one back home.

Wine & Dine

The hotel itself includes two dining venues — the Sol Pool Lounge we mentioned, and the Luna Bar & Restaurant. Luna Bar’s menu features international specialties, with a special Dominican twist throughout the day. The poolside lounge serves drinks and light snacks for a quick bite after a swim.

That said, there are quite a few wine & dine options within walking distance of the hotel. For a truly comprehensive experience, we warmly suggest visiting at least a few.

Cultura Cervecera

If you have an appreciation for the divine beverage that is beer, Cultura Cervecera will blow you away with its collection of ales, lagers, drafts, and stouts. This beer tasting bar features a selection of the finest beers out of Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Haiti, the U.S.A., Britain, and more.

What’s more, the friendly and knowledgeable staff will help you pair up your beer of choice with the perfect snack that will accentuate the taste and heighten the enjoyment.

Tostón Gourmet

This casual eatery allows you to savor exciting dishes in a relaxed, casual environment. The restaurant’s menu is built around plantains, a staple in Dominican cooking, but adds an interesting twist to the dishes.

The plantains are both the main attraction here, as well as a substitute in most dishes — from burger buns to pizza crust. Eat here, and you’ll never look at a burger joint back home with the same eyes.

El Conuco

If you wish to immerse yourself in the local culture, El Conuco offers you a palette of authentic Dominican flavors. Moreover, the plates themselves are made out of the typical behuco indio and sugarcane, with the signature dishes being adorned with cayenne flowers.

The sounds of tambourine and the accordion create a relaxing ambience, while guests enjoy the enchanting performances from local dancers.

Renaissance Jaragua Customer Service

The hotel holds a 4.5-star rating on TripAdvisor and qualifies for their Certificate of Excellence. There are plenty of reasons why guests visiting the hotel don’t hesitate to leave overwhelmingly positive reviews.

Apart from a magnificent location, guest reviews often highlight the cleanliness of the hotel and the quality of service. The Renaissance Jaragua is renowned for the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff. Every single employee will endeavor to make your stay absolutely wonderful, ensure that you feel welcome and that your every need is catered to. The staff speaks fluent English, so you’ll never have any trouble conveying your wishes or understanding their directions.

There haven’t been any unpleasantries involving the hotel staff, from what we read in the hundreds of guest reviews we’ve browsed through. Quite the contrary, most people seem to remember staff members by name, and have only words of praise for the hotel.

In other words, if you want to indulge yourself and get a royalty treatment, this jewel of the Dominican Republic will deliver.
